Mathew 6:34 - Do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add to the troubles each day brings. I heard a story about
a clock that was near a nervous breakdown. It seems the clock began to
think about how often it would have to tick during the coming year. Figuring
two ticks a second, 120 a minute, 7,200 each hour, 172,800 a day and 1,209,600
ticks each week, the clock would have to tick nearly 63 million times
in the next 12 months. Confiding in a friend, the clock said it did not have the strength to tick that often. The friend asked, "How many ticks must you tick at a time?" The clock answered, "Only one." "Well, simply tick one tick at a time and don't worry about the next one. You can do that." That's exactly what the clock did. And it ticked happily ever after. There may be times when our problems look insurmountable. Some burdens seem to be long-term and too heavy to bear, and what lies ahead seems foreboding. But Jesus tells us not to worry about the troubles tomorrow may bring. Today, we have to live only today, and we can pray for help this one day. We can face our problems, "one tick at a time." Prayer - God of grace and love, you have graced us with the gift of life. You challenge us to live with a faith that gives us courage and guidance as we make tough decisions. Grant us the wisdom to make the right decisions. Help us not to be overwhelmed with all that has to be done. Let us remember that with your guidance we can face each task "one tick at a time." We pray this in your precious Son's name. Amen |
