Housing and Meals

Florence Hall and Bonnie Hall are properties of the Order at Chautauqua. Along with a Resident Advisor who is responsible for organizing and managing each household, you will live at either at Florence Hall or Bonnie Hall.

In addition, the Order owns Benedict House, home to the International Headquarters, Memorial Museum and Margaret Bottome Memorial Room and the Ida A. Vanderbeck Chapel and the Ethel Rebecca Holt Fellowship Hall on the Chapel's lower level which is used for meals and meetings.

Breakfast is self-serve in the houses and the class meets for dinner most evenings in Fellowship Hall. Special events on and off the grounds such as class dinners, picnics, barbecues, dining out and pizza parties offer variety to the weekly meal schedule. Three meals per day and snacks are included in the scholarship.

How is Chautauqua different from my home?

Our houses are not air-conditioned and summers can be hot and humid. Days are sunny but evenings can be cool enough for a sweater or jacket and a rain shower is not uncommon. All rooms are equipped with fans for warm evenings.

None of our properties have televisions. Chautauqua has a quiet serene atmosphere free from loud blaring noises. After 11 pm, Chautauquans observe quiet out of respect for others.

We do not provide computers for students use in the houses. The Smith Library, the College Club and Benedict House have computers with Internet access for your use.
