November is a good month to be thinking about peace. November 11, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 – the war that H.G. Wells called “war to end all wars”. Clearly it was not that. At sunset on the 100th anniversary, in Canada, bells will ring 100 times from Parliament Hill, places of worship, military installations and the like. Hearing the church bells was the primary way that people in 1918 heard it was the end of that war. Remembering the impact of war, we need to work for peace in all places and at all times. How can members of The KDS do that? One way is to consider supporting a Peace Club in your local school or community. These clubs which exist in many places in the world, including the US and Canada, bring young people together to learn how to resolve conflicts, learn communication skills, and exchange experiences. “If we have not peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” – Mother Teresa
