I recall a poster from WWII in London’s Imperial War museum:

Your courage, Your cheerfulness, Your resolution will bring us Victory!

Every citizen of the world can learn from this 1939 pre-blitz motto from the past and apply it to our viral pandemic today.  For most of us, it is impossible not to worry and feel fearful about our own mental and physical health risks as well as the economic impact of the novel coronavirus. A more recent variation of this theme is the British poster familiar to us today:

                     Keep Calm and Carry On

I think IOKDS members and their families and friends are doing just that by adjusting their daily lives as needed to comply with recommendations from health professionals and governments.  Ironically, however, social distancing and self-isolation decisions seem to be resulting in community building that has not occurred to this extent since WWII and 9/11.  Even with social distancing, this is a time to build and take advantage of the IOKDS sense of community that our membership provides.

Certainly, the International Order of The King’s Daughters and Sons motto originating from Dr. Edward Hale’s Lend a Hand movement applies as much today as it did in 1886:

Look up not down, Look forward not back, Look out not in, Lend a hand.

Now is the time for us to accept the challenge to serve others In His Name using virtual communication daily—telephone, email, IOKDS Facebook page posts, Facetime, iokds.org/blog.  Our message is:

                       God is always with us.
