On April 30, 2020 my term as IOKDS President came to an end. An ending is always an opportunity to look back and to look forward. In 2016, I took up my responsibilities promising to be a servant leader. As such I worked to motivate the Board of Directors and all leaders to fully grasp our vision and mission of service. Everyone wanted to succeed not for personal reward but for the betterment of others. My job was to find the resources and the advice to help them reach success. Our monthly Board meetings were designed around the challenges of implementing our ideas, building consensus and always creating forward movement. So many worked very hard and I am grateful.
We spent our annual leadership retreats building our understanding and capacity to work in new ways, planning our priorities and determining how our structure needed to change to accommodate the pursuit of our mission. We had to make many tough decisions and I am grateful for the care and thoughtfulness as our members faced those choices.
Our annual conferences hold great promise for engaging more members. IOKDS Conference 2019 in Nashville had 25% of participants who were first-timers. I look forward to the next time we can all be together.
I encourage each of you to take on a leadership role – at your Circle, Union, or Branch and when you are ready, to step forward to lead at the international level. Remember Jabez’ Prayer 1 Chr.4:10
In His Name,
Immediate Past President
