Jesus our Judge: Forgive us as a nation and as individuals. For asking You to bless us when we fail to bless You. For ignoring a system of prejudice, bigotry, and oppression by claiming a false patriotism. For spreading fears and lies about people who are not like us because of where they come from, how they worship, how they talk, how much money they make, what they have, what they do for a living, how much education they have, who their family is, or how they look. For treating women as objects. For allowing poison such as pornography to pollute our minds and bodies. For spreading the lie that abortion is just a procedure. For blindly following politicians or preachers. For being more concerned with our rights than our responsibilities or the rights of others. For turning a blind eye to abuse, oppression, injustice, human trafficking, racism, mental illness, and so much more. For being unwilling to acknowledge our own privilege and our sin and complicity. For failing to ensure equality for others, especially the poor. For destroying our environment in the name of progress. For calling one another enemy. For failing to deal with problems at their root. For refusing to work together. For committing genocide and supporting others that do the same. For not leading our children, not caring for our elderly, and not hearing the cry of the hurting. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Amen. (KML)
