December Devotional

As we close out the year, I am closing out the devotions from the conference. The last related
to Hannah’s prayers.
I think that she is a great role model for consistent, trusting prayer. The other lesson from her
is that she promised her firstborn to the Lord’s service. How many of us would have done that?
We read in 1 Samuel 2, there was a man named Elkanah. He had two wives: the name of one
was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no
children.
Yearly they went to the Temple to worship. One year in her anguish she prayed for a son.
1 Sam 2:10 And she was in bitterness of soul and prayed to the LORD and wept in anguish.
11 Then she made a vow and said, "O LORD of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction
of Your maidservant and remember me, and not forget Your maidservant, but will give Your
maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor
shall come upon his head."
The high priest accused her of being drunk. She told him of her prayer.
17 Then Eli answered and said, "Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which
you have asked of Him."
20 So it came to pass in the process of time that Hannah conceived and bore a son, and called
his name Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked for him from the LORD."
27 For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him.
28 Therefore I also have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives, he shall be lent to the
LORD." So, they worshiped the LORD there.
When the child was weaned, she took him to the Temple to leave him there with the high priest!
And Hannah prayed and said: "My heart rejoices in the LORD; My horn is exalted in the LORD.
I smile at my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation.
2 "No one is holy like the LORD for there is none besides You, nor is there any rock like our
God.
That needs a Hallelujah at the end!!! He is our Rock!
Join me in prayer: Father, thank You for Who You are not what You do for us.
We praise You for being GOD. We ask You to accept our praise. It is never enough!
Father thank You that the sacrifices that You require are not so great as Hannah’s.
But You do ask us for the great sacrifice of a surrendered heart.
Forgive us the many times that submission to Your will has not been our way of life.
Show us how to love You and others more fully.
Show us how to be more like You LORD JESUS.
Help us to seek and to yield to the leading of Your Spirit.
Father we want to serve for You in greater ways.
In the strong Name of JESUS, we pray.
Remember The reason for the season. His Name is wonderful! He is The King of glory!
