God Heals Our Hearts

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” (Psalm 51:10-12)

I have felt many times when things become hard, complicated, and even overwhelming that God may not be very interested in remaining with me. Maybe he needs me to cope after all I am a grown up, or he wants me to be braver, to show him that I can handle the losses, the despair, the betrayal, the sadness that some of these days have brought to me. After all, he certainly has things far more important than me, people much stronger and powerful than me who he can use to influence others to bring about his Kingdom.

But then, a voice in my heart speaks softly if I take the time to sit and listen quietly to my soul, to the Holy Spirit within me, instead of pouring my words as a non-ceasing flow. That voice that speaks to my heart tells me who the Lord Jesus Christ is. He is Emmanuel, God with us, He is the Bread of Life, the one who we call the Prince of Peace. He is the one who left his celestial home to come humbly and be born in a stable to a couple of Hebrew people with no power of their own. He came to point to truth, to the light, and to bring us salvation as we embrace him as Lord.

He is interested in you and me. That is who he is. And because of this identity we take on a new identity in him that can heal our hearts. We make ours the truth that he will never leave nor forsake us because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

So rejoice, if you and I are in Christ, then we are a new creation, everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:17-18). Not only does he care about us and heals our hearts, but he has purpose and plans for our life. We are in good hands. Rejoice!
