April Devotional

from Sandy Pace- VP Spiritual Life

There are some books that we read over and over in our devotionals.  Even if it is just a page or two, they lead us to deeper worship of the Godhead.  For me two such books are “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren and “Before Amen” by Max Lucado.  Each page holds a jewel of thought that makes me give GOD glory and praise, to make me want a closer fellowship with the Trinity.

One such chapter in Rick Warren’s book is “What makes GOD smile”.  Pleasing GOD is our primary focus of life.  We accomplish that by becoming more and more like CHRIST.

Num 6:25 The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;

Gen 6:8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. (Living Bible= Noah was a pleasure to the LORD.)

Because Noah was a pleasure to GOD, you and I are here today.  GOD started humanity over with Noah’s family.  Noah and his family loved GOD when no one else did.  This too makes GOD smile, our returning His love is one of His desires.  He wants us to fellowship with Him.

JESUS put it succinctly: “Love the LORD your GOD with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

GOD loved Noah because he trusted Him.  For 120 years he preached to people while he was building the Ark.  He did not question what GOD had given him to do.  Noah could have stated the obvious: “I have never seen rain, I live away from the coast, how will I gather those animals?”

He caused GOD to smile by using his talents for GOD.  GOD loves to see us use the skills and resources that He has provided.  GOD smiles when we obey Him wholeheartedly.   Would we have complied fully like Noah?  We tend to obey partially.  GOD does not owe us explanations.  Often, after the event is over, the LORD gives us the meaning.  He first asks for obedience.  Obey gladly is the command.

Ps 147:11 The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him in those who hope in His mercy.

Noah’s first act after the flood was to build an altar and give GOD the glory and praise.  Surely, GOD smiles when we give Him thanks and praise.

GOD smiles when we wholeheartedly accept His Son as our Savior.

I have a sampler that says: in happy moments praise GOD, in difficult moments seek GOD, in quiet moments worship GOD, in painful moments trust GOD, in every moment thank GOD.      Let that be our prayer this month.
