Life is so much like the race analogies that he used. The only difference is that JESUS does not disqualify those of us that finish behind the winner. The point is to give GOD our best, to strive to win. No one enters a race to try to lose.
Phil 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
That upward call! The Scriptures tell us to look forward to His call from Heaven. We are to expectantly await the trumpet blast. It as if we are peeking out the window waiting for our favorite guest to arrive!
I am so moved by the Olympic competitors, especially those that come in fourth. They probably spent just as many hours in practice and sacrifice as did the winners. We will all receive victory.
1 Cor 9:25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus, I fight not as one who beats the air.
Rom 8:37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Our life, that term sanctification, for most is a long run. We have successes and failures, but we know the end of the story. Hallelujah! Those of us who know CHRIST as our Savior know that He will not abandon us. The assurance that no evil can take us from His hand gives us courage and encouragement.
We know about the rewards that will be given in Heaven. These are gifts, not earned as we are there solely on CHRIST’s righteousness.
Take the time this month to think about the heavenly call and your race that you are living. The glorious finish is always in sight!
