Here are comments about experiences from recent Chautauqua Scholars:
Gaining a vision for ways to be of service in my future
Chautauqua is a dream that you will not be able to explain when you wake up. You just need to experience it.
Having freedom to explore and grow
Learning new skills and making awesome friends
My patience was tested but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Enriching and challenging on so many levels
Being exposed to a variety of ideas and art forms, and opportunities to engage in stimulating conversations
Relaxing in the quiet time by the lake
If asked to create a place that is perfect to my standards, Chautauqua would still be better!
Having the chance to re-examine myself, my faith, my view of the world and the US specifically. It helped me become more knowledgeable and engaged with life.
An emotional, mental and spiritual environment where everyone gains and takes away something different from the journey.
Challenging myself in an atmosphere that encourages exploration of all parts of human nature.
Enriching my life by being with those whose faith and backgrounds are different from mine
I was reminded every day when I woke up how powerful and merciful our God is, who let me be here with a lot of beautiful people
I got a little taste of what people are like in the U.S., and the common western theological thinking.
Chautauqua will change your life for the better. It will always hold a special place in your heart.
It’s like going to TED talks every day.
It’s a family, peaceful place, generous community, a place where you feel at home.
I found answers for different life decisions. Chautauqua will live in you forever.
A summer full of deep thinking. Leadership development skills, and learning about diversity, not to mention, who you are as a person, beliefs, personal and everything.
Growing opportunity that offers much knowledge and fellowship with new people. It’s leaving home to visit another world which is just totally different. Meeting people who were brought up in a totally different world so they’re totally different too
