“A week away from agendas and responsibilities…”

“….a serene, peaceful, congenial, worry-free setting with emotional, spiritual, intellectual, artistic stimulation available. All in the context of a small, intimate community.”

Each summer since 2006, The King’s Daughters and Sons has provided a one week retreat for members of the clergy and their spouses at the beautiful, lakeside setting of the Chautauqua Institution in western New York State.

The Chautauqua Institution is well-known as a community that encompasses the arts, education, religion and recreation. It is a place that is transformed into a multi-generational “campus” for nine weeks each summer. Morning worship services are followed by Chautauqua’s renowned morning lecture series with distinguished speakers from a range of academic disciplines. With the lake, trails, fitness centers and golf course, recreational opportunities abound. A week at the Chautauqua Institution provides time for rest and reflection with amazing opportunities for art, plays, opera, popular and classical concerts and more. In addition, over 300 Special Studies classes are available ranging from music, investing, languages, cooking, history, art, exercise, religious discussion – you name it!

The King’s Daughters and Sons organization is a member of this vibrant community. We have been blessed with a headquarters, residential properties and a chapel on the grounds. We share the gift of Chautauqua with dedicated members of the clergy through our popular Clergy Renewal Week. We give our ministers a vacation – time away from the schedules, demands and challenges of professional ministry. Our purpose is to a place of respite, relaxation and fun for clergy and their spouses.

We provide housing, hospitality, breakfast and the majority of evening meals. The Chautauqua Institution Department of Religion provides gate passes for the clergy. Our participants’ expenses are limited to their transportation costs, spouse gate passes and meals other than the above.
